How to Size BILLY Footwear: A Simple Measuring Guide
Finding the right BILLY Footwear size is easier when you measure the foot—or the AFO and foot together—instead of relying only on the usual shoe size.
BILLY styles can differ in width, depth and internal space. The most reliable approach is to measure both feet in centimetres and compare the results with the sizing chart for the exact shoe style you are considering.
Use these three measurements to help identify a suitable BILLY Footwear size and width.
What Do the A, D and E Measurements Mean?
BILLY Footwear sizing charts use several measurements. At Keeks, we ask customers to provide the three measurements most useful for checking length and internal space:
- A — Foot or brace length: Measure from the back of the heel or AFO to the longest point at the front.
- D — Ball circumference: Measure around the widest part of the forefoot, following the position shown in the guide.
- E — Ankle-area circumference: Measure around the foot or brace near the ankle, following the position shown in the guide.
These measurements can then be compared with the internal dimensions listed in the BILLY Footwear sizing charts.
How to Measure for BILLY Footwear
1. Measure What Will Be Worn Inside the Shoe
If the shoes will be worn with an AFO, orthotic or particular pair of socks, include them while measuring. Measuring the foot alone may underestimate the space required.
2. Measure Both Feet
Feet and braces are not always identical. Record a separate set of measurements for the left and right sides.
3. Take the A Measurement
Measure the actual length of the foot or brace from the back of the heel to the furthest point at the front. Keep the measuring tape straight and record the result in centimetres.
4. Take the D Measurement
Wrap a flexible measuring tape around the ball of the foot or brace at the widest part of the forefoot. The tape should sit securely without being pulled tight.
5. Take the E Measurement
Measure around the area near the ankle shown in the guide. This is particularly important when fitting footwear over an AFO or when extra depth is required.
6. Check the Exact BILLY Style
Do not assume that the same size will fit identically across every BILLY shoe. Different shoe families and widths have their own internal measurements, so always check the chart for the particular style.
How Do You Size BILLY Footwear for an AFO?
There is no single BILLY size that works for every AFO. The correct choice depends on the brace’s length, width, circumference and overall shape.
As a general guide, wide BILLY footwear worn over an AFO may need to be approximately 1.5 to 2 sizes larger than the usual shoe size worn without the brace. This is only a starting point—the A, D and E measurements should always be checked against the chart for the chosen style.
Some BILLY styles provide more depth, removable insoles or wider options than others. However, BILLY also advises that its footwear may not accommodate every brace or foot shape. If you are unsure, send us the measurements before ordering.
Should You Remove the Insoles?
Some BILLY shoes contain removable insoles. Removing an insole can increase the available internal circumference, but the amount varies according to the shoe and size.
Check the product description and sizing chart before removing insoles. They should only be removed when appropriate for the wearer’s support and comfort requirements.
Does BILLY Footwear Run True to Size?
For someone wearing ordinary socks and no orthosis, the usual shoe size can provide a helpful starting point. For wider feet, swelling, orthotics or AFOs, the usual size alone is not enough.
The shoe’s length, width and internal circumference all need to work together. Measuring first can reduce uncertainty and help you select a more suitable BILLY style.
